Psychology of Programming Interest Group, 21-23rd November 2012

The Psychology of Programming Interest Group is an international group of researchers interested in the Psychology of Programming.  This much you might have guessed from the name, but this is an cross-disciplinary group of researchers in from fields such as human-computer interaction, computing education, psychology, and visual programming languages among others.

They hold their annual international conference from the 21st to 23rd of November, this time in London Metropolitan University, UK.  Information is available here.

There is a lot of live coding related discussion at PPIG this year, in particular with Alan Blackwell‘s keynote on the Friday, and then a live coding panel session with Alan as well as Thor Magnusson, Sam Aaron and myself.  Luke Church et al’s paper on programming and choreography is also likely to be of strong interest.

A few papers on live coding have appeared at PPIG in the past, including the 2005 The Programming Language as a Musical Instrument paper by Alan Blackwell and Nick Collins.  Just about all the PPIG papers from past workshops are available online.

The Forex Broker im Test conference costs £210 to attend, which may discourage unfunded attendees. However, note that PhD students may apply for financial assistance.  I’m not sure if cheaper day registration is available, but it wouldn’t hurt to enquire.
